System configuration

Advertising network is building as centralized informational system. Server is used as central control unit. Prescribed number of display facilities is connected to the server.

Connecting-link in the system is:

If information display facilities are no more than 150 meters away from server, the connecting-link is local network based on cupric twisted-pair cable;

If the distance is from 150 up to 1000 meters, the connecting-link is local network based on optical fiber;

If the distance is move over then 1000 meters, the connecting-link is structured cable network (SCN) with optical fiber main and with branches on cupric twisted-pair cable up to 150 meters or it is Internet network.

Placing

Information display facilities are distributed separately from one another. The distance between display facilities and focal point is defined by the information system type, which the system is based on.

Information display facilities are stationed inside or outside, that is determined by the service conditions requirements of equipment.

Configuration

Server: computer in a manufactured housing, technical specifications correspond to the servers class for the telecommunication applications. Facilities of service work record-keeping. Operating system: Windows or UNIX/LINUX.

Operator’s work station: personal computer specially destined for round-the-clock work (if this is required), printer. Operating system: Windows 2000/XP.

Additional equipment: network commutator, modem (for the network baseâ on the Internet), patch-panels, uninterruptible power supply.

All equipment can be put in one place.

Generic description of system work

The information display is carried out under the server control (work station in a simple layout).

Per se, classic architecture client-server is used, where information display facilities with built-in digital multimedia comptrollers are used as clients («thin client» conception).

Standard TCP/IP protocol serves as the transport of information transfer. Due to this are provided:

  • system flexibility;
  • reliability (routine practice);
  • exploitation and network maintenance simplicity (there is a great number of specialized SOFTWARE for network testing and adjusting);
  • scalability (addition of new display facilities is made easily and simply, segment structure creation is possible);
  • network distribution (display facilities separation from a server is without limit when using the Internet).

All information display facilities are addressable, thanks to what both individual and group control are possible.

ÍThe program, which distributes an informative array at time and in space, is executed on a server. Distribution at time is provided by the job scheduler, which allows programming the time of the beginning and time length of the show of every informational block. Distribution in space is achieved by the addressing mechanism of display facilities.

An operator can from his work station:

  • to programme the information display scenarios for every display facility individually or for the group of facilities simultaneously. A scenario contains the following information: what to display, when, as long, how often to repeat;
  • to control the imagery in the hand mode (to switch on/off the showing of one or another information blocks);
  • to «download» on a server necessary information blocks (this operation must be executed beforehand);
  • to control all system work (by sight, on protocols, on printings).

Note: With the purpose of video movies display it is necessary to execute their preliminary numeralization and loading on a server. Optimum alternative is when video movies have already been recorded in a digital format on a compact disk. If this condition is not executed, the operator’s workstation must be additionally equipped by a high-performance video card or special card for video editing. In this case video data are loaded on the workstation by the video input from any video source (video recorder, video camera).

Additional possibilities

It is also possible a placement of static advertisements. The demonstration scenario of static advertisements is similar to the video movies showing.

It is possible slides demonstration.

Also there are possible the database attachment and scenario development for the display of dynamically changing lists (for example, train schedule, menu in a restaurant, list and cost of goods, rate of exchange, etc.).

In the future it will be possible to display whole Internet pages from the set nodes (this option is not yet accessible).
